As part of its commitment to sustainable tourism and biodiversity conservation, JOIA Aruba by Iberostar, through Aula di Lama under the Iberostar Foundation, successfully hosted the Shoco Ambassador Training in collaboration with Aruba Bird Life Conservation. The program, held from October 27 to 31, 2025, was open to the public and celebrated Aruba’s national bird, the Shoco (Athene cunicularia arubensis).
The free training brought together nearly 800 participants, including employees from JOIA Aruba by Iberostar and Tierra del Sol Golf Course, students from the University of Aruba, and representatives from other hotels such as Boardwalk and Marriott. The sessions focused on raising awareness about conservation and promoting harmony between people and nature.
Future sessions will extend to Aruba Airport Authority staff and local schools, continuing efforts to inspire environmental responsibility across the island. Participants also supported conservation by purchasing handcrafted recycled Shoco pins, with proceeds donated to Aruba Bird Life Conservation.
This initiative is part of Iberostar’s global Wave of Change movement, which promotes circular economy practices, responsible seafood sourcing, and coastal protection while advancing sustainable tourism throughout Aruba and beyond.
