Three Aruba tourism professionals were recognized as the island’s 2026 Local Vacation Heroes during the Aruba Global Travel Conference on September 15.
Three tourism workers recognized
According to 24ora’s report on the ceremony, the Aruba Tourism Authority honored Maidel Yero, Jandor Lampe and John Marvin Kelly for their service, dedication and positive impact on the tourism industry.
Yero has 24 years of tourism experience and works in Activities and Entertainment at Playa Linda Beach Resort. Lampe has worked in tourism for 28 years and is a bartender at La Cabana Beach Resort & Casino. Kelly, widely known as “Uncle Johnny,” is an ABC Tours guide with more than 40 years of experience.
Guests submitted more than 160 nominations
The Nominate Your Local Vacation Hero campaign is now in its third year. Visitors submitted more than 160 nominations during a three-week period, sharing stories about local people whose kindness, care and hospitality made their stays memorable.
More than 400 nominations have been received across the campaign’s three editions. A committee reviews the submissions against established criteria and selects three winners representing different parts of the tourism industry.
Recognition rooted in visitor experiences
The nominations come directly from guests rather than from the Aruba Tourism Authority. ATA chief executive Ronella Croes said the recognition celebrates people who provide the service, care and hospitality for which Aruba is known, while also thanking workers across the tourism sector.
The awards place the 2026 Local Vacation Heroes among the professionals whose work helps visitors form lasting connections with Aruba.
