Aruba’s tourism leaders used the opening of the Aruba Global Travel Conference 2026 to outline a strategy focused on value, responsibility and long-term resilience rather than simply increasing visitor numbers.
According to AWE24’s report, Tourism Minister Wendrick Cicilia, Aruba Tourism Authority CEO Ronella Croes and ATA Chief Marketing Officer Sanju Luidens addressed the September 15 opening.
Quality and resilience guide Aruba tourism strategy
Croes said the island’s success should be measured by the value tourism creates for Aruba and its community. The direction presented at the conference combines a strong visitor economy with protection of natural resources, culture and residents’ quality of life.
ATA plans to strengthen resilience by diversifying source markets and attracting visitors who fit the responsible-tourism strategy. Examples cited included destination weddings, multigenerational travel and environmentally conscious visitors.
The aim is to stabilize visitor volume rather than pursue unlimited growth. ATA also wants to manage the combined flow of arrivals through Aruba’s airport and cruise port while maintaining the island’s strong demand.
Marketing emphasizes a two-way relationship
Luidens described marketing as a way to build a stronger relationship between Aruba and its visitors. ATA’s “When You Love Aruba, It Loves You Back” platform asks visitors to appreciate and protect the island while enjoying their stay.
The conference also highlighted reciprocal tourism: a model in which the destination and its visitors both benefit. ATA said cooperation with international partners, Aruba’s tourism industry and the community will be central to creating economic opportunity while protecting the qualities that distinguish the island.
