Minister of Social Affairs Melvin Wyatt-Ras signed a conference in Sint Eustatius focused on strengthening youth participation in the Kingdom. During the gathering, representatives from Aruba, Sint Maarten, Bonaire, and Sint Eustatius signed an Intentieverklaring to enhance the role of young people in decisions affecting their lives and future.

Organized by the Interlandelijke Taskforce Kinderrechten, the conference centered on “Meaningful Youth Participation.” Attendees analyzed a UNICEF study regarding children’s rights in the Dutch Caribbean and exchanged experiences on initiatives to amplify youth voices. The declaration was signed by Island Governor Alida Francis, Minister Melissa Gumbs, Eilandgedeputeerde Timoteo Silberie, and Minister Wyatt-Ras.

Minister Wyatt-Ras emphasized that the signing represents a concrete commitment to turn words into action. He stated that it is vital for youth not only to be heard but to actively contribute to issues impacting their future. The Minister pointed out cooperation between the islands.
