An Aruba Gavel Club has been formally installed with 20 young members through cooperation between Orua Toastmasters Club and YNZ Montessori School, according to a November 6 report by 24ora.
Programme develops speaking and leadership skills
Orua representative Ursell Arends said the initiative is intended for young people aged 12 to 18 and supports public speaking, critical thinking and leadership. He said Aruba previously had a Gavel Club dating from 1963; the new initiative revives that type of youth programme rather than marking the island’s first-ever club.
Students prepared through October
Preparation began in October with approximately four weeks of guidance from Orua members. Students also visited the regular Toastmasters club to learn how it operates. YNZ Montessori’s Yraika Yanez highlighted the value of communicating confidently and presenting ideas. The organisers hope to expand to other schools, but no additional school launches or dates are confirmed in the report.
