Arubus finances, fleet problems and the installation of new bus shelters need attention, AVP parliamentarian Carlos Bermudez said in a report published by 24ora on November 3. He also raised concerns about the effect of fuel costs on transport operators and residents.
MP seeks clarity on finances and shelters
Bermudez said he had met Arubus representatives in his capacity as chair of Parliament’s transport committee. He put the company’s debt at Afl. 18.6 million and described staffing and fleet difficulties. These figures and assessments are attributed to him in the report.
He said between 12 and 14 new bus shelters had arrived and asked for a clear installation timetable. He described two trial models, including one with an advertising display, and stressed the need for shade for passengers waiting in the sun.
Fuel costs remain part of transport discussions
Bermudez said bus and taxi drivers had raised fuel-price concerns. He referred to the government’s absorption of half of recent petrol and diesel price increases and said officials were examining further support. The report does not announce a new subsidy decision or a completed Arubus recovery plan.
