THE HAGUE – Dutch State Secretary for Kingdom Relations Eric van der Burg said his priority is to see the HOFA legislation approved as quickly as possible, regardless of who completes the negotiations on Aruba’s behalf.
Speaking after the Dutch Council of Ministers meeting, Van der Burg said the focus should be on securing approval of both Aruba’s national legislation and the Kingdom law needed to implement HOFA.
He explained that Aruba’s Parliament must first approve the national legislation before the proposal can proceed through the Dutch House of Representatives and Senate. Once both laws are approved, he will be able to sign the legislation into effect.
Van der Burg described HOFA as an important initiative that strengthens cooperation within the Kingdom and creates new opportunities for Aruba. He added that his position is not about Prime Minister Mike Eman personally but about ensuring the process moves forward without unnecessary delays.
He also said he expects to continue working with Prime Minister Eman over the coming months and believes the Aruban government remains supportive of both the national legislation and the HOFA agreement.
