LONG ISLAND – A Long Island man was arrested after allegedly canceling his former business partner’s vacation trip to Aruba by using the victim’s identity during a phone call to a travel agency.
Robert Fisher, 42, was arrested on Thursday, May 7, and charged with first-degree identity theft, according to the Suffolk County Police Department.
Authorities stated that Fisher’s former business partner arrived at JFK Airport on March 22, 2025, expecting to travel to Aruba on a vacation package valued at approximately $4,000.
However, upon arriving at the airport, the victim discovered that the trip had been canceled without his knowledge about three hours earlier.
Investigators later determined that Fisher allegedly contacted the travel agency himself and used personal information belonging to the victim to impersonate him and cancel the reservation.
Police reported that the cancellation caused a financial loss of approximately $4,202 to the victim.
Fisher, a resident of Southampton, surrendered himself to police Thursday morning and is expected to appear in court.
