U.S. Travelers Leaving Aruba Can Now Clear Customs Faster with New Biometric System

American travelers departing Aruba now benefit from a faster, more efficient customs process thanks to the activation of a biometric departure system at the U.S. Pre-Clearance facility at Queen Beatrix International Airport.

The Enhanced Passenger Processing (EPP) system officially went live this week after hardware installation was completed. U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) began processing U.S. citizens using the new system on Tuesday, streamlining a key part of the return journey.

The system uses facial biometric technology to quickly verify a traveler’s identity by matching a live scan to passport biometric data and CBP’s Traveler Verification Service. In most cases, passengers no longer need to present a physical passport unless additional screening is required, allowing for faster and smoother movement through Pre-Clearance.

Already in use at major international airports such as Orlando International Airport and Dublin Airport, Aruba now joins the growing list of destinations implementing next-generation border processing technology.

Officials highlighted that the system is family-friendly and accessible, allowing group processing for children and travelers requiring assistance. After a brief interaction with a CBP officer, approved passengers can proceed directly to their departure gate, reducing wait times and terminal congestion.

The launch coincides with ongoing construction as part of Aruba Airport’s Gateway 2030 expansion project, ensuring service quality during modernization. Jurgen Benschop, COO of the Aruba Airport Authority, said the timing was intentional to balance efficiency, security, and passenger experience.

CBP officials emphasized that the system strengthens airport security while offering modernized, faster departures for U.S. citizens. The technology powering the platform is provided by iProov, whose CEO, Andrew Bud, noted that the deployment improves operational efficiency and gives travelers more time to enjoy their Aruba vacation.

No pre-enrollment is required; all U.S. citizens departing Aruba through Pre-Clearance can use the system automatically. For travelers, this means shorter lines, less waiting, and a smoother conclusion to their Aruba stay, even amid the airport’s ongoing modernization efforts.
