Aruba traffic and parking crisis

AVP Member of Parliament Stephany Sevinger is urging Aruba’s authorities to move from planning to action on the island’s worsening traffic and parking crisis, calling the situation in the Palm Beach high-rise area a critical safety concern that threatens one of the country’s most vital tourism zones.

Palm Beach draws thousands of visitors each day, yet the congestion in the area has spiraled into disorder, Sevinger said. The problem extends beyond tourists — thousands of hotel and restaurant workers face daily struggles simply arriving at their jobs on time.

Similar parking shortages are surfacing across the island. Eagle Beach, the area near the lighthouse, and downtown Oranjestad all face growing congestion that has long hindered economic activity and accessibility.

Sevinger warned that the disorganized traffic conditions pose real dangers to drivers, pedestrians, and emergency response vehicles. While she acknowledged that authorities are aware of the issues, she stressed that awareness is no longer enough — execution and speed must now be the priority.

“The goal is clear: modern, safe, and functional infrastructure for the thousands of employees, residents, and visitors who use our roads every day,” Sevinger said in her appeal.

She called on the government to deliver clear planning, consistent public communication, and strong accountability, pressing officials to accelerate the rollout of solutions that have already been identified.
