Over the weekend, Taekwondo Team Aruba competed in the Worldwide Martial Arts Tournament held in Orlando, Florida, where the island’s TK5 team achieved a remarkable victory over Team USA.
Last year, Aruba’s TK5 team tied with the United States, securing one win and one loss. This year, however, the team made history by defeating Team USA twice in a row.
Grand Master Melvin Rasmijn, head of Taekwondo Team Aruba, assembled a team of six athletes to face off against the Americans.
In the first 5-on-5 round, Aruba started 18 points behind but quickly turned the match around with strategic substitutions, ending the round with a 51–44 victory. In the second five-minute round, Aruba dominated once again, winning 32–16 against Team USA.
The team celebrated their impressive win with great pride, marking another milestone for Aruba in international martial arts competition.
