ORANJESTAD (AAN) – The former building of the Ministry of Public Affairs and the earlier Central Bank in Oranjestad will be transformed into a new student and commercial complex by FCCA. The project will create 21 student apartments and three commercial spaces, contributing to the revitalization of Oranjestad and providing opportunities for local residents and students.
Julie Wever, FCCA’s Technical Commercial Director, explained that the initiative aligns with FCCA’s mission to provide housing for the community while boosting economic activity in the city center. The commercial units will generate revenue that can be reinvested in social projects.
The apartments will be available to local students as well as international students attending the University of Aruba, under a partnership agreement that facilitates access and accommodation. Construction began in February 2026, and the building is expected to be delivered by the end of December. FCCA also plans to renovate another former government building, DIMAS, creating 21 more apartments and two commercial units.
This project supports the vision of Minister Geoffrey Wever of Economic Development, Commerce, and Industry, demonstrating how government collaboration with the private sector can generate tangible benefits for the community, stimulate the local economy, and create more opportunities for Aruba’s youth.
