Sofia Buunen was named overall winner of DVG’s Doño Responsabel school art competition during an October 23 award ceremony at the Bestuurskantoor, according to an EA News report published October 26.
Winning work planned for rescue-centre mural
The fifth-grade pupil at Princes Amalia Basisschool was recognized as DVG and the Ministry of Public Health presented awards to 12 young artists. The report says her picture will be turned into a mural at the future Rescue and Control Centre, carrying a message of care and protection for animals.
The recognition at Friday’s ceremony follows the earlier announcement of the competition’s 12 selected winners. This report concerns the ceremony and the selection of the overall winner, rather than a new contest.
Hundreds of entries from primary schools
DVG reported receiving 725 drawings from 17 primary schools. Colegio San Hose, Colegio Hilario Angela and Mon Plaisir School San Nicolas received special recognition for their high participation.
The department thanked pupils, families and teachers and used the occasion to encourage lifelong responsible pet ownership and the prevention of animal abandonment and mistreatment.
