ORANJESTAD (AAN) – Aruba is gearing up for its first-ever Senior Citizens’ Olympics, organized by Fundación Movemento in collaboration with Minister of Sports Gerlien Croes, Fundacion Lotto para Deporte, Minister Mervin Wyatt-Ras, Directie Ouderenzaken, and Giovanni Leocadia from RYG (Reach Your Goals). The event is set to take place on Sunday, April 12, 2026, at the Betico Croes Sports Center in Santa Cruz, from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
This recreational competition will feature seven groups of older adults, each with 20-25 participants. A total of 159 individuals will take part, with groups such as Flor di Aloë (Dakota), Honey Bees (Dakota), Happy Hearts (Santa Cruz), Rise and Shine (San Nicolas), Curason Jong (Paradera), Sigui Move 60plus (Noord), and Club Kibrahacha (Paradera) representing different neighborhoods across Aruba.
The event will also serve as a preparation for the upcoming Olympics for older adults in Bonaire in June 2025, with the goal of fostering health, wellness, and inclusion in Aruba’s senior community.
The ceremony will include an award presentation and the distribution of medals, with the event dedicated to Mrs. Edna Maduro, who won a gold medal for Aruba at the 1993 CAC Games in Puerto Rico.
The public, seniors, families, and friends of the participants are all invited to attend and show support. Admission is free, and a bar and kitchen will be available. The event promises to be a joyful and inspiring celebration of Aruba’s senior community!
