RCA’s football field can now host activities after dark following the inauguration of a new lighting system. The installation is part of the Ministry of Sports’ broader effort to improve football facilities across Aruba.
Sports Minister Gerlien Croes switched on the lights during a ceremony on Tuesday, September 1. Young players took to the field after the system was activated, providing an immediate demonstration of the extended training hours the upgrade makes possible.
A milestone for the club
RCA president Jean Marc Ras described the moment as historic for a club with more than 90 years of history. He said RCA is the first club in Aruba to receive field lighting under the current project and connected the occasion to earlier generations who worked to develop the club’s facilities.
The work required planning for poles, fixtures and the supporting installation. William Erasmus, director of Lotto pa Deporte, said the project represents an investment in both sport and community activity.
More usable hours for players
Lighting allows teams to schedule training later in the day and can make competitions more flexible. That is especially relevant for youth players and adults whose school or work schedules limit daytime availability.
The inauguration is a concrete follow-up to previously announced lighting upgrades for Aruba’s sports fields. Further facility work is expected as the wider improvement program continues.
