As Aruba observed World Environment Day on June 5, attention turned to the importance of nature protection and green investments. In Bario Mabon, a tree planted by Prime Minister Mike Eman in August 2025 remains a symbol of the shared commitment between the government and the community. This initiative forms part of the government’s ambitious goal to plant 100000 trees during its first four years in office.
Prime Minister Eman has stated that the vision extends beyond simply planting trees to building a greener, healthier Aruba that is resilient against climate change and drought. Mainwattie Persaud, a resident of Caya Butishi, took responsibility for the tree immediately after it was planted.
“Since the day Mike Eman came to plant the tree, I have been watering it morning and night. Every day I take care of the tree,” Persaud stated. He noted that despite the current drought affecting Aruba, the tree has grown well and displays good health. He expressed hope that the Prime Minister will be able to personally see the tree’s growth during a future visit.
Persaud called on the entire community to care for the trees in their neighborhoods to make the island more beautiful and pleasant.
