ORANJESTAD, Aruba — A major air-traffic communications failure in the northeastern United States disrupted Newark Aruba flights, cancelling three United Airlines services and delaying another.
Three flights cancelled and one delayed
Airport information showed Newark-to-Aruba flights UA1040 and UA1042 cancelled, along with Aruba-to-Newark flight UA1039. UA1043 was delayed, while reported JFK and Boston services continued.
Control-centre outage affected thousands
The disruption began with a failed primary circuit at a Philadelphia control centre. A backup fibre connection had also been cut during construction work. Travellers were advised to confirm flight status with their airline.
