ORANJESTAD, Aruba – Aruba Airport Authority N.V. (AAA), operator of Queen Beatrix International Airport, and Utilities Aruba N.V. have officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore innovative and sustainable solutions that support Aruba’s long-term environmental and infrastructure goals.
The agreement reflects a shared commitment between Aruba Airport Authority, Utilities Aruba, N.V. Elmar, W.E.B. Aruba N.V., and Aruba Waste Water Sustainable Solutions (AWWS) to identify opportunities that can meet the airport’s growing energy demands while contributing to Aruba’s broader sustainability objectives.
Under the MoU, Utilities Aruba will cooperate with AAA in exploring sustainable solutions for future energy capacity expansion and energy management at the airport. The initiative is particularly important as the airport continues to grow and advance development projects under the Gateway 2030 program.
In return, Utilities Aruba has requested AAA’s cooperation in exploring sustainable water and wastewater management solutions, along with other initiatives aimed at improving efficiency and environmental performance.
The agreement establishes a framework for an exploratory phase during which both organizations will conduct studies, share expertise, and evaluate the feasibility of potential projects. Areas of focus include solar energy expansion, energy management strategies, water reuse alternatives, and other sustainability opportunities that could benefit both organizations and the wider community.
AAA Chief Executive Officer Jonny Andersen stated that sustainability remains a strategic priority for the airport and emphasized the importance of proactively identifying solutions that support future energy needs while contributing to Aruba’s environmental goals.
Utilities Aruba Executive Director Joseph Everon highlighted the value of collaboration in addressing Aruba’s future infrastructure and sustainability challenges, noting that the partnership can strengthen energy resilience, resource efficiency, and environmental stewardship.
The organizations also plan to explore knowledge-sharing initiatives, pilot projects, feasibility studies, and potential funding opportunities that support sustainable development.
The signing of the MoU underscores the commitment of Aruba Airport Authority and Utilities Aruba to building strategic partnerships that contribute to a more sustainable, resilient, and future-ready Aruba.
