ORANJESTAD (AAN) – A 60-year-old detainee was found unresponsive in a holding cell at the San Nicolas Police Station during a routine cell inspection on the evening of July 1, according to the Aruba Police Force.
Police spokesperson Liliana Rasmijn said officers discovered the detainee at approximately 8:20 p.m. while conducting a routine check. The officer in charge and the police dispatch center were immediately notified, and the appropriate emergency procedures were activated.
The District Chief, a forensic doctor, the BFTO forensic team, and the Landsrecherche responded to the scene to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death.
The Victim Support Department also assisted the family during the incident, while the deceased’s body was later removed by a funeral service.
Police confirmed that the deceased was a 60-year-old man born in Aruba but did not release his identity. The case remains under investigation by the Landsrecherche.
Authorities extended their condolences to the family of the deceased.
