The documentary “The Six – Discovering Dutch Caribbean Nature: Aruba” held its VIP-première at the Renaissance Convention Centre. The event was attended by high-ranking officials, including Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten, Aruba’s Council of Ministers, Governor Alfonso Boekhoudt, and Prime Minister Mike Eman. This premiere marks a significant step in the WOW! project, a comprehensive multimedia initiative designed to strengthen the connection between nature, identity, and the Dutch Kingdom.
Bianca Peters, co-founder of WOW!, addressed the audience regarding the project’s origins, which began in 2018 as a sustainability initiative. She explained that the concept was born from a desire to connect the Kingdom through shared values. “We can connect if we find something everyone loves. And everyone loves nature,” Peters stated. The project has since expanded into a multidisciplinary effort encompassing documentaries, educational programming, podcasts, and scientific databases. These resources are designed to foster innovation and support decision-making based on concrete data regarding the region’s environment.
A symbolic moment during the evening saw the official launch of the documentary by Prime Minister Jetten, Governor Alfonso Boekhoudt, and Prime Minister Mike Eman. In his remarks, Prime Minister Jetten praised the unique nature of the Caribbean islands, noting that witnessing their beauty is a gift. He highlighted the documentary’s role in raising awareness about biodiversity and the urgent challenges posed by climate change to local communities. “It is important that products like WOW! inspire more people to reflect on what they can do to protect nature,” he added, emphasizing the need for collective action.
