Aruba Parliament Discusses Progress of HOFA Kingdom Law

ORANJESTAD (AAN) – Aruba Parliament President Marlon Sneek explained that several important legal procedures still need to be completed before the Kingdom Law HOFA can officially take effect in both the Netherlands and Aruba.

During an interview, Sneek referred to discussions held with Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten and parliamentary factions during Jetten’s recent visit to Aruba.

According to Sneek, the proposed HOFA Kingdom Law still requires debate and approval in the Dutch Tweede Kamer and Eerste Kamer before becoming official legislation in the Netherlands.

He also emphasized the importance of receiving formal advice from the Raad van State, which must review the law and provide recommendations before the Dutch government responds.

Sneek explained that the legislation is considered a “hybrid” legal structure because it requires approval both through a Kingdom Law in the Netherlands and a national ordinance in Aruba.

He stated that if either the Dutch Kingdom Law or Aruba’s local legislation fails to pass, the HOFA law cannot enter into force.

The Parliament President also criticized public claims suggesting Aruba could immediately face a crisis because of HOFA, emphasizing that the legal process remains ongoing and incomplete.
