ORANJESTAD, Aruba (AAN) — Elderly wellbeing Aruba priority was reaffirmed during a recent public meeting between the AVP parliamentary faction and Minister of Social Affairs, Public Health, Elderly Care, and Addiction Services, Mervin Wyatt-Ras.

The discussion focused on the importance of continuously improving the wellbeing and dignity of Aruba’s senior citizens, ensuring that they are able to live with security, respect, and quality of life. The AVP faction emphasized that ongoing, constructive dialogue between government, Parliament, and key stakeholders is essential to achieving sustainable solutions.

Minister Wyatt-Ras listened carefully to the concerns raised, particularly those coming directly from the elderly community. Within the framework of the AVP–Futuro government, concrete measures have already been implemented, including the decision to restore medication coverage, a move that has been widely welcomed by the community.

Many families in Aruba have felt the impact of rising healthcare costs, and the reinstatement of medication coverage through AZV has brought meaningful relief to seniors who contributed for many years to the country’s development.

In addition, the AVP faction highlighted the Afl. 500 pension increase as an important step toward easing the financial pressure faced by elderly residents, especially at a time when the cost of living continues to rise globally. According to AVP, this measure demonstrates that public concerns are being heard and translated into action.

The AVP reiterated its firm position that seniors deserve solutions that positively affect their daily lives. While challenges remain, progress in improving the quality of elderly care is being made step by step, supported by necessary investments in social services.

The goal remains clear: an Aruba where seniors can live with peace of mind, security, and respect.
