The Aruba government agenda for the 2026-27 parliamentary year puts shared prosperity at the center of proposals covering wages, housing, tourism, health, infrastructure and public services.
Minimum wage and housing measures announced
In the government speech delivered by Governor Alfonso Boekhoudt, the administration said it plans legislation linking the minimum wage to the minimum cost of subsistence. It also promised support for small and medium-sized businesses as wages improve. Affordable housing, neighborhood upgrades and revitalization in Oranjestad and San Nicolas are among the stated priorities.
Tourism focus shifts toward quality
The government said tourism will remain essential but should focus on quality, sustainability, local participation and residents’ quality of life rather than continuous growth. Other proposed areas include agriculture, financial technology, the blue economy, creative industries and clean energy. Plans also mention primary and mental healthcare, long-term care financing, school and monument renovations, reforestation, digital infrastructure and simpler public procedures. These are policy commitments for the new year; funding, legislation and implementation remain subject to later decisions.
