COVID Vaccine Available for High-Risk Groups

The Department of Public Health (DVG) informs the public that the COVID-19 vaccine is currently available for individuals belonging to high-risk groups, and appointments can now be scheduled.

Although COVID-19 is now considered one of several respiratory viruses circulating in the community, health authorities emphasize that COVID-19 and influenza remain the two most dangerous respiratory viruses, particularly for vulnerable populations, as they can lead to serious complications and even death.

The high-risk groups include:

Visit Aruba
  • Adults 60 years and older

  • Individuals with chronic illnesses or medical conditions, such as asthma, diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, or a weakened immune system

  • Persons with obesity

  • Pregnant women

For individuals within these groups, the COVID-19 vaccine is completely free of charge.

  • High-risk individuals under 60 years of age must present a doctor’s prescription along with proof of AZV insurance.

  • Adults 60 years and older only need to present their AZV card; no prescription is required.

The COVID-19 vaccine is administered exclusively on Tuesdays, and an appointment is mandatory. Appointments can be made by calling DVG at 522-4200.

In addition to vaccination against COVID-19 or influenza, DVG strongly encourages continued preventive measures to reduce the spread of respiratory viruses, including:

  • Frequent handwashing with soap and water or using hand sanitizer

  • Covering the mouth when coughing or sneezing

  • Avoiding public places when experiencing symptoms

  • Limiting contact with sick individuals

  • Avoiding unnecessary touching of the eyes, nose, and mouth

Health authorities remind the public that vaccination and prevention together remain the most effective way to protect both individuals and the wider community.
