ORANJESTAD, Aruba — Colegio Santa Filomena welcomed students back for the 2026-2027 school year with a special addition to its San Nicolas campus: a newly opened playground.
Students arrived at the elementary school Thursday morning to begin a new academic year filled with opportunities, friendships and new experiences.
The first day of school also provided an opportunity for the school community to officially inaugurate its new playground.
New Playground Opens for Students
A parish priest attended the opening ceremony and blessed the playground before students began using the new facility.
The playground was made possible through the support of Wings of Hope in collaboration with ABO Projects.
Colegio Santa Filomena expressed its appreciation to both organizations for their support, dedication and commitment to the school’s children.
School representatives said their contribution helped turn the playground project into a reality and provided students with a new area where they can play, socialize and enjoy outdoor activities.
Supporting Student Development
Playgrounds can provide an important part of the school environment by giving children opportunities for physical activity, social interaction and recreation during the academic day.
For students at Colegio Santa Filomena, the new facility adds another space where friendships can develop and children can enjoy time together outside the classroom.
The school described the beginning of the new academic year as a period filled with new adventures, opportunities and memories.
The playground opening added another milestone to the start of the 2026-2027 school year.
New Teacher Welcomed
The school community also welcomed a new teacher named Sagine.
Colegio Santa Filomena expressed its happiness at having her join the school and wished her success as she begins working with students and fellow staff members.
The arrival of a new teacher, combined with the opening of the playground, gave the school several reasons to celebrate as classes resumed.
School Community Begins New Academic Year
The start of a new school year represents an important transition for students, teachers and families throughout Aruba.
At Colegio Santa Filomena, Thursday’s return brought together familiar faces and new members of the school community while introducing students to an improved campus environment.
The school thanked everyone who contributed to preparing for the academic year and especially recognized Wings of Hope and ABO Projects for helping create the new playground.
With the facility officially blessed and opened, Colegio Santa Filomena begins the 2026-2027 school year with a new recreational space and a positive welcome for students and staff.
