Traffic returned to normal on L.G. Smith Boulevard after crews responded to a broken WEB water main near the former Royal Plaza in Oranjestad, while a final phase of road work remained scheduled for the weekend.
Water leak affected the boulevard
24ora reported that the pipe failed overnight in the waterfront area near Casa Playa, formerly Royal Plaza. A substantial amount of water reached L.G. Smith Boulevard and affected the road surface.
WEB and subcontractor Kimjen Construction VBA worked on controlling the leak and repairing the pipe. The Department of Public Works, known as DOW, and the Aruba Police Force also responded to manage road safety and traffic around the site.
Temporary diversion lifted before paving phase
Police temporarily diverted vehicles so technical crews could work safely. Justice Minister Arthur Dowers visited the site and said the coordinated response was intended to protect the public and limit disruption on a major traffic route.
Traffic was able to resume normally after 11 a.m., according to the report. Additional work, including paving the damaged portion of the road, was planned between early Saturday and early Sunday.
