In commemoration of Earth Day, the Aruba Hotel & Tourism Association (AHATA) and its Environmental Committee organized a widespread coastal and roadside cleanup. The initiative, held on April 22, saw the participation of over 500 volunteers from 17 member companies across the island.
The cleanup targeted several key areas, including Eagle Beach, Boca Catalina, Malmok, and the terrain along L.G. Smith Boulevard. Volunteers collected a variety of materials, with a significant focus on plastic and single-use items such as bottles, cigarette butts, and food containers. Larger waste items, including car tires and household appliances, were also removed from the environment.
Participating organizations ranged from major resorts like the Aruba Marriott Complex and Hyatt Regency to local businesses and the Aruba Airport Authority. AHATA expressed gratitude to the volunteers for their dedication, noting that the event highlights the community’s commitment to preserving Aruba’s natural beauty and maintaining a clean environment for residents and visitors alike.
