The Cas Debrot restoration has entered its second phase as Stichting Monumentenfonds Aruba works to preserve the protected building at Caya Betico Croes 98.
The monuments fund purchased the property in 2024. The building was constructed around 1929 for merchant José Maria “Boy” Debrot and Elia Capriles and remained in the family until they moved to Venezuela in 1941.
A changing Oranjestad landmark
Cas Debrot later housed the Dutch Bank Union, Debrot Hardware, Nassau Shoe and the Venezuelan consulate. Its design combines Neo-Baroque and Latin American influences and reflects later changes made during the 1960s and 1970s.
The second phase of the Cas Debrot restoration is intended to safeguard the building’s distinctive character while preparing it for a viable future use.
