On Thursday, September 11, Prime Minister of Aruba, Mr. Mike Eman, together with his wife Doina, attended a solemn ceremony hosted by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) at Queen Beatrix International Airport.
The event marked the 24th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, one of the most devastating tragedies in modern history. The coordinated attacks on the Twin Towers in New York, the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., and the plane crash in Pennsylvania claimed the lives of more than 3,000 people and forever changed global aviation security.
During the ceremony, CBP Director in Aruba, Mr. Roberts, delivered an emotional speech to honor the victims. Among the attendees were Jocelyne Croes, Director of the Department of Foreign Affairs, James Fazio, Director of the Airport, and CBP personnel.
The program included a prayer led by a CBP officer, followed by a moment of reflection. Prime Minister Eman also addressed the gathering, expressing Aruba’s solidarity with the victims’ families and reaffirming that, despite its small size, Aruba stands as part of the global community united against terrorism.
The ceremony concluded with Prime Minister Eman and his wife lighting a candle in memory of all the lives lost on 9/11.
