Court rejects challenge to certificate decision
The Court of First Instance in Aruba has upheld an Aruba VOG refusal involving a man who wanted to work as a taxi driver. A VOG is a certificate of good conduct. The court found the authority was justified in denying the application because of the seriousness and recent timing of his criminal record.
According to 24ora, the original refusal was issued on August 11, 2026.
Recent convictions weighed heavily
The applicant had two final convictions, dated June 23, 2025, and May 4, 2026, involving intentional drug possession or dealing and assault with a weapon. The latest conviction became final May 19, and he left Aruba’s correctional institution May 22.
Taxi work requires a position of trust
In its September 9 judgment, the court stressed that taxi drivers must be trustworthy, responsible and law-abiding. It acknowledged his intention to help his family but found a longer period of good conduct was needed. The source reported that no further appeal is available.
