ORANJESTAD (AAN): Vaping among young people in Aruba is becoming a growing concern, with children as young as 7 reportedly using e-cigarettes at home with parental permission. Electronic cigarettes may contain nicotine and other harmful substances that can affect brain development, lungs, and overall health. Experts emphasize that adult guidance and education are crucial to prevent addiction and protect the well-being of youth.
Rulienne Arends of FADA noted a sharp increase in requests for talks and presentations on vaping over the past three years. Presentations highlight both short- and long-term health risks, including a higher likelihood of future substance use due to nicotine addiction. Social media misinformation exacerbates the problem, making parental awareness and responsible guidance even more critical.
FADA continues to run awareness campaigns using testimonies, videos, and images showing the serious health consequences of vaping, including lung damage. New audiovisual materials emphasize the harmful ingredients in e-cigarettes. More information is available on FADA’s social media channels.
