AVP parliamentary leader Jennifer Arends-Reyes has raised concerns about Aruba health-care funding, including hospital financing and coverage for hyperbaric treatment.
Dutch health authorities conducting research
Arends-Reyes said the Dutch Healthcare Authority is conducting research in Aruba after carrying out similar work in Curaçao. She said the government’s response to eventual recommendations will be important, particularly as it considers new agreements with AZV for services purchased from Dr. Horacio E. Oduber Hospital.
Hyperbaric treatment coverage questioned
The AVP leader called for an evaluation of whether AZV should include hyperbaric treatment in its package. She said the treatment can help wound care, including for people with diabetes, and argued that providing it in Aruba costs less than comparable treatment in Curaçao.
Arends-Reyes also noted that changes in regional patient referrals can affect the hospital’s finances because the non-profit hospital receives income for services provided to patients from neighbouring islands.
