Reclaiming Colonial Streets will open applications on November 1 for six artists to explore history, memory and identity in San Nicolas, according to Art Rap Foundation’s announcement reported by Diario.
Six artists will research six streets
The project focuses on streets named after Dutch painters and their relationship with local communities. An independent three-member committee will select six artists, each assigned a street for six months of research and artistic development. The intended result is an intervention blueprint, not a requirement to install a finished artwork during this phase.
Applications close November 30
The deadline is 11:59 p.m. Aruba time on November 30, 2026. Applicants must submit an artistic CV of up to three pages, a motivation statement of up to 500 words, an initial idea of up to 500 words and links to examples of their work through the official online form.
Priority goes to artists from or demonstrably connected to San Nicolas, followed by other Aruba artists and overseas-born artists with at least five years of established professional practice on the island. Selected artists are expected to be announced in December.
Nelson Gonzalez created the concept and is the project’s curator. The announcement directs applicants to zeertropisch.com for the full conditions and application information.
