Aruba is not just a beautiful beach destination—it’s a vibrant, lively island with a rich cultural heritage. The locals know how to celebrate, and they invite visitors to join in the fun, dancing, eating, and reveling in the festive atmosphere throughout the year. Whether you’re indulging in traditional foods or joining in the parades, here’s how to experience Aruba’s true party spirit!

🎶 “Dia di Betico” – Betico Day (January 25th)

Honoring Gilberto “Betico” François Croes, the Liberator of Aruba, this day is marked with sporting events, folkloric shows, games, and musical performances. Local snacks like pastechi’s, croquettes, and empanadas are served at food stalls.

🎭 Carnival (January – March)

Aruba’s Carnival is a spectacular sight with parades, dazzling costumes, and music. The Grand Parade is the highlight, featuring dancers in feathers and glitter, with Calypso music filling the air. The festivities culminate in the Burning of King Momo and a farewell to Carnival on Ash Wednesday.

🇦🇼 “Dia di Himno y Bandera” – National Anthem and Flag Day (March 18th)

Celebrate Aruba’s patriotism with folkloric events, music, and fireworks. The day also features delicious traditional dishes like Cabrito Stoba (goat stew) served with funchi, pan bati, and more.

🐣 Easter (April)

Easter in Aruba is a time for family gatherings, beach outings, and BBQs. Children enjoy Easter egg hunts, and families often spend the day camping or boating.

👑 King’s Day (April 27th)

Honoring King Willem-Alexander’s birthday, Aruba’s streets are filled with orange outfits, parades, kite flying, and flea markets. Treat yourself to Dutch treats like tompouce, frikandel, and bitterballen!

🔥 “Dia di San Juan/Dera Gai” – Day of San Juan (June 24th)

This festival is a time to celebrate the harvest, with traditional dances, drums, and fire. Locals wear red and yellow and gather around bonfires to scare away bad luck.

🎅 Sinterklaas (December 5th)

The legendary Sinterklaas arrives to Aruba, bringing gifts for well-behaved children. Candy, chocolate letters, and pepernoten are exchanged, and Dutch songs fill the air.

🎄 Christmas (December 25th & 26th)

Christmas in Aruba is a festive time with church services, family dinners, and gaita music. Feast on ham, ayaca, stuffed turkey, and delicious treats like pastechi’s and cheese balls. Don’t forget a glass of Ponche Crema to wash it down!

🎆 New Year’s Eve and Day (December 31st – January 1st)

Ring in the new year with fireworks, illuminations, and Dande music. Chinese firecrackers (pagara) light up the night, and locals indulge in oliebollen (Dutch treats). On New Year’s Day, join the locals at Moomba Beach for a refreshing dip in the ocean to start the year right!
