During a meeting at the Bestuurskantoor, Prime Minister Mike Eman and Minister of Tourism Wendrick Cicilia met with Birgitta Tazelaar, Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Washington D.C., and Carmen Gonsalves, Chargé d’affaires of the Dutch Embassy in Caracas, Venezuela.

The Aruba diplomatic meeting economic opportunities focused on strengthening international relations and identifying new areas for economic development. Prime Minister Eman emphasized the need for Aruba to diversify its economy and move beyond its heavy reliance on tourism.

“We are at a point where Aruba must look beyond tourism and develop new economic pillars,” Eman stated. “We want to position Aruba as a hub for services, knowledge, and regional cooperation.”

Discussions also highlighted the increasing interest of the United States in the Caribbean region, which could open doors for new investments and partnerships. The diplomats stressed the importance of collaboration between the Netherlands, the United States, and Caribbean nations.

One of the key topics was Aruba’s potential role as a strategic hub connecting Latin America and the United States, with opportunities in areas such as digital infrastructure, connectivity, and economic exchange.

The diplomats noted that current geopolitical developments present positive opportunities for Aruba to expand its economic base and strengthen its position in the region. They also emphasized the importance of knowledge exchange and intellectual dialogue, positioning Aruba as a platform for global discussions and innovation.

During their visit, the diplomats expressed appreciation for Aruba’s national celebrations, highlighting the strong sense of unity and pride among the Aruban people.

The Aruba diplomatic meeting economic opportunities represents a significant step in the government’s efforts to broaden the country’s economic foundation and establish Aruba as a dynamic and reliable partner in the region
