Aruba Surpasses Tourism Expectations for June

Minister of Tourism, Transport, and Labor, Mr. Wendrick Cicilia, proudly announced that Aruba’s tourism sector grew by 3.1% in June and 3.3% for the January to June period, surpassing the initial 1% projection for the year. According to Minister Cicilia, this confirms that:

“The market diversification strategy to maintain our main economic pillar is delivering concrete results.”

Strategic Diversification: A National Priority

Minister Cicilia highlighted that the American market remained stable in June, while Aruba took a proactive approach to strengthen its presence in other markets. During June 2025, growth was seen in:

  • Canada: +37.8%

  • Latin America: +12.9%

  • Europe: +5.1%

“The global economic situation demands preparation, vision, and adaptation. Our commitment to market diversification is not only successful but also positions us better to face future challenges,” said Minister Cicilia.

Accommodation, Connectivity, and Airport Capacity

Tourism growth also reflected in the accommodation sector, with hotel stays increasing by 7.3%. However, ‘All-Inclusive’ and ‘Time Share’ hotels dropped by 4 to 5%. The category labeled “other” — including vacation rentals, condominiums, and family/friend homes — grew by 11.3%.

The occupancy rate for vacation rentals in June 2025 was 55%, showing an increase, while AHATA reported a 72% occupancy but a decline overall. Compared to 2024, Aruba added approximately 900 new hotel rooms, impacting the industry’s occupancy rates.

It is important to consider that airport capacity limits expansion for several American airlines.

Minister Cicilia reaffirmed ongoing work with ATA and AAA to increase flexibility and improve connectivity from Latin America, Europe, and Canada, prioritizing new flight frequencies and schedules that fit Aruba’s possibilities.

“Our goal is not just to attract more visitors, but to do so in a way that balances and benefits our people as well. The quality of life of our residents and the visitor experience must go hand in hand. We are working to keep Aruba a leading destination, but also a balanced and dignified home for everyone who lives here,” Minister Cicilia concluded.
