The JA IK Aruba Youth Program continues creating positive changes in the lives of young people by helping them develop confidence, leadership skills, and broader perspectives about their future opportunities.

According to Jalken Antonia, founder of Stichting JA IK Aruba, the program has already produced noticeable transformations among participating youth since the initiative began.

During an interview, Antonia explained that one of the first major changes observed through the JA IK Aruba Youth Program was the growing willingness of participants to ask questions during lessons and educational visits.

He stated that many of the young participants were initially quiet and hesitant to speak openly, but over time they gained confidence and began asking deeper and more meaningful questions.

Another important development within the JA IK Aruba Youth Program has been the improvement in understanding theoretical concepts and personal growth strategies. Participants are encouraged to read books focused on leadership and self-development to help them use their thinking more consciously and positively.

Antonia emphasized the importance of changing negative mental habits and encouraging youth not to limit their own possibilities by thinking “I can’t.”

The JA IK Aruba Youth Program currently involves around 40 young participants, all of whom are actively working on personal growth, creativity, and preparation for the labor market.

According to Antonia, many participants who once feared speaking publicly are now capable of standing confidently in front of groups and delivering presentations with assurance.

The JA IK Aruba Youth Program lasts approximately five months and focuses on preparing young people for employment and personal development.

The organization’s primary goal is to secure additional funding so the program can continue expanding and helping more youth find jobs and opportunities in Aruba.

Some participants in the JA IK Aruba Youth Program are already beginning internships, while others have successfully found employment thanks to the skills and confidence gained through the initiative.

Antonia explained that while some participants are fully prepared to enter the labor market, others still need additional time and support to continue building confidence and readiness.

The second phase of the JA IK Aruba Youth Program will focus even more on expanding the participants’ thinking, exposing them to new opportunities, and connecting them with business owners and professionals.

Lessons are currently held three times per week during the five-month program period.

Antonia also expressed the long-term ambition of extending the JA IK Aruba Youth Program into a full one-year initiative so that even more young people can benefit from the program’s positive impact on Aruba’s future workforce and society.
