Aruba Raises Disability Assistance Benefits in August

ORANJESTAD, Aruba – Aruba Raises Disability Assistance after the Government of Aruba approved a monthly increase of Afl.100 for individuals receiving disability assistance benefits. The increase, announced by Minister of Public Health, Social Affairs, Elderly Care and Addiction Services Mervin Wyatt Ras, officially takes effect on August 1, 2026, providing additional financial support to eligible residents.

The government confirmed that recipients will begin receiving the higher benefit with their August 2026 payment, which will be issued at the end of the month. Following the approved increase, the monthly disability assistance benefit will rise to Afl.1,180 gross per month, replacing the previous amount.

According to Minister Ras, the decision reflects the government’s ongoing commitment to improving the well-being of people living with disabilities and strengthening social inclusion across Aruba. The ministry said the increase is intended to help beneficiaries better manage the rising cost of living while ensuring continued support for some of the island’s most vulnerable residents.

The minister explained that the additional financial assistance forms part of the government’s broader social welfare strategy aimed at supporting individuals who depend on public assistance programs. Officials acknowledged that many households continue to face increasing expenses for essential needs, including food, transportation, utilities, healthcare and other daily living costs.

Aruba Raises Disability Assistance at a time when inflation and higher living expenses continue to affect many families across the island. Government officials believe the additional Afl.100 per month will provide meaningful financial relief to recipients and help them cover everyday necessities more effectively.

The Ministry of Public Health, Social Affairs, Elderly Care and Addiction Services emphasized that the increase demonstrates its continued focus on promoting equality, accessibility and inclusion for people with disabilities. Officials noted that strengthening social protection programs remains an important priority as the government works to improve the quality of life for residents who require ongoing assistance.

Recipients of disability assistance do not need to submit a new application to receive the increase, as the revised amount will automatically be reflected in the August benefit payment. The updated monthly payment of Afl.1,180 gross will become the standard benefit for eligible recipients going forward.

Residents who have questions about the increase or wish to obtain additional information regarding eligibility, payment schedules or disability assistance programs are encouraged to contact the Department of Social Affairs. Ministry officials said staff members are available to provide guidance and answer inquiries related to the updated benefit.

The government stated that the approved increase represents another step toward strengthening Aruba’s social support system while ensuring that people living with disabilities continue receiving assistance that better reflects current economic conditions. Officials said they remain committed to developing policies that promote inclusion, dignity and financial security for residents who rely on public assistance programs.
