Aruba Red Cross Disaster Team Deployed To Venezuela as nine trained volunteers departed Sunday morning to support humanitarian relief efforts following the powerful earthquake that recently struck Venezuela.
According to Marylaine Lopez, Disaster Coordinator for the Aruba Red Cross, the mission serves two important objectives: providing immediate humanitarian assistance while assessing conditions on the ground to prepare for additional relief operations.
The Aruba Red Cross Disaster Team Deployed To Venezuela consists of members of the organization’s Disaster Response Team, all of whom have completed specialized emergency response training and possess experience in disaster relief operations.
Specialized Emergency Training
The volunteer team includes professionals certified as Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) and Emergency Medical Responders (EMRs), enabling them to provide immediate medical assistance during natural disasters and humanitarian emergencies.
During the first phase of the mission, the team will:
- Conduct field assessments in affected communities.
- Establish a temporary field hospital.
- Set up logistical support operations.
- Gather information to assist the deployment of additional medical teams from Aruba.
According to Lopez, preparing the logistical infrastructure will allow future medical teams to begin delivering healthcare services more quickly and efficiently.
Supporting Venezuela’s Recovery
The Aruba Red Cross Disaster Team Deployed To Venezuela reflects Aruba’s commitment to assisting neighboring countries during times of crisis. Lopez expressed pride in the volunteers who accepted the mission, noting that they are representing both the Aruba Red Cross and the country of Aruba during an important international humanitarian operation.
She emphasized that even though Aruba is a small island, its assistance carries significant meaning for both the Venezuelan people and the Venezuelan community living in Aruba.
Continuing Emergency Preparedness
The Aruba Red Cross invests throughout the year in disaster preparedness through continuous training, emergency exercises, and volunteer development programs. These efforts ensure that teams remain ready to respond to emergencies both within Aruba and across the Caribbean region.
Lopez also encouraged members of the community to become Red Cross volunteers, explaining that new volunteers receive training and can become part of future humanitarian response teams.
The Aruba Red Cross Disaster Team Deployed To Venezuela mission was made possible through close cooperation between the Aruba Red Cross, the Government of Aruba, the Crisis Management Office (CMO), and several international humanitarian partners. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Mike Eman, the necessary logistical and administrative preparations were completed to enable the rapid deployment of the first humanitarian team to Venezuela.
