ORANJESTAD (AAN) – The Aruba government emphasizes the importance of strictly following land-use laws, regulations, and procedures to ensure responsible spatial planning and protection of the island’s limited natural resources.
The rules are established in the “Ruimtelijk Ontwikkelingsplan met Voorschriften” (ROPV) and require permits for any land clearing, modification, or development. Technical agencies, including DIP and DNM, evaluate potential environmental or hydrological impacts, such as protected flora, fauna, or ecological features, before approving any project. Construction permits may follow only after the legal procedures are fully met.
The government has noted past illegal land clearing activities or permit violations and strongly disapproves of actions bypassing legal procedures. Compliance with these regulations is mandatory to protect public interest and ensure transparent, technically and environmentally sound decisions.
Efforts are ongoing to strengthen enforcement and supervision of the rules to prevent further environmental degradation, protect natural systems, and maintain sustainable development. Landowners, contractors, and relevant actors are urged to adhere strictly to all applicable regulations to ensure balanced, responsible growth across Aruba.
