MEP Parliamentarian Xiomara Maduro has criticized the AVP-FUTURO government regarding the lack of transparency surrounding the constitutional implications of the *Rijkswet* HOFA and the *Landsverordening Waarborging Houdbare Overheidsfinanciën* (LWHO). Maduro asserts that the government is focusing almost exclusively on financial benefits while avoiding necessary discussions about the impact on Aruba’s autonomy and the relationship with the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
According to the parliamentarian, the legislation involves more than just financial relief, touching on governance and autonomy. She noted that while Finance Minister Geoffrey Wever addresses numbers and benefits, crucial questions about the limits of Aruba’s self-governance remain unanswered.
Maduro highlighted that Minister of Kingdom Relations Gerlien Croes is primarily responsible for explaining how the government intends to defend Aruba’s constitutional interests. She expressed that the public has yet to hear from Croes on how the autonomy will be guaranteed.
Additionally, Maduro demanded that Prime Minister Mike Eman publicly clarify whether the government is prepared to accept constitutional concessions in exchange for the financial benefits. She emphasized that transparency means providing the full story, urging the leadership not to hand over Aruba’s autonomy in silence before decisions affecting future generations are taken.
