SNBA Opposes Total Refinery Dismantling : Errol de Freitas, President of the San Nicolas Business Association (SNBA), shared his vision regarding the future of the refinery and the economic development of San Nicolas during an interview with Tito Laclé on Noticiacla LIVE on Tuesday night.
During the discussion, De Freitas expressed that the SNBA is not in favor of a total dismantling of the refinery. Instead, the association agrees with dismantling sections that no longer have use or economic value. He noted that the refinery terrain covers nearly four million square meters and contains various facilities that could be reutilized for other industrial and commercial activities.
“There are parts of the refinery that definitely cannot be used anymore and these can be dismantled. But there is also infrastructure that still has value and can help Aruba in the future,” De Freitas commented. He emphasized that reactivating the district’s economy fastest lies in industrial activities. “It is not about opening the same refinery as before. We are talking about a completely different upgrade.”
De Freitas specifically mentioned storage capacity as a major opportunity, suggesting old tanks could be adapted. He noted that countries like Guyana and Venezuela face storage problems, and Aruba could become part of the solution.
