ORANJESTAD (AAN): On Monday afternoon, seventeen Aruban families officially signed their erfpachtakte during a special ceremony at the JFK Education Center cafeteria. This marks a significant step confirming their legal rights to the land and homes where they and their families have lived for many years.
The ceremony is part of the ongoing efforts by the AVP-Futuro Cabinet to address the situation of homeowners who purchased their homes but had not yet received official property documentation because the land was still registered under the government’s name.
Since the AVP-Futuro administration assumed office, citizens have expressed concerns about delays in regularizing their property ownership. The government has taken these requests seriously, working closely with the Fundación Cas pa Comunidad Arubiano (FCCA), the Directie Infrastructuur en Planning (DIP), and the Dienst Landmeetkunde en Vastgoedregistratie (DLV) to find practical solutions and accelerate the process.
Minister of Infrastructure, Housing, and Communication, Drs. René Herdé, expressed his gratitude for representing the government at such a meaningful event. He highlighted that Prime Minister Mike Eman played a key role in advancing the final phase of the process, allowing families to finally obtain their erfpachtakte.
According to Minister Herdé, regularizing home ownership has been a longstanding issue worked on by previous administrations. He recalled that it was a priority during the tenure of the late Minister Watty Vos, and many families have waited a long time to see this moment become a reality.
“For many people, this is more than a document. It represents security, peace of mind, and a more stable future for their families,” Minister Herdé said.
The government considers this initiative part of a broader vision to strengthen access to dignified housing and create more opportunities for Aruban families. In addition to property regularization, the government continues to work on various housing initiatives, neighborhood renovations, and community development.
The ceremony included representatives from FCCA, DIP, DLV, notaries, government officials, and the families benefiting from the program. With the official signing of the erfpachtakte, seventeen more families have achieved a significant milestone: the security and peace of mind of truly owning their homes.
