ORANJESTAD – SETAR announced that it will officially disconnect its 2G mobile network on August 1, 2026, as part of efforts to modernize Aruba’s telecommunications infrastructure.
According to the company, the transition follows international telecommunications trends where older technologies such as 2G and 3G are being phased out to create space for faster and more efficient 4G and 5G networks.
SETAR explained that devices and services operating exclusively on the 2G network will stop functioning after the shutdown date.
The affected equipment may include older mobile phones, alarm and security systems, and point-of-sale (POS) terminals that depend solely on 2G connectivity.
Customers are being encouraged to begin transitioning to devices and SIM cards compatible with 4G or 5G networks to avoid service interruptions.
The company also indicated that its 3G network is expected to be disconnected in 2029 as part of the long-term modernization strategy.
SETAR stated that the infrastructure upgrades aim to improve digital communication services, business connectivity, network security, and support for future smart technologies across Aruba.
Officials described the transition as an important step toward strengthening Aruba’s digital connectivity and telecommunications capabilities.
