Gianaika van der Biezen, director of Fundacion pa Nos Comunidad (FPNC), recently discussed the challenges posed by the rising cost of living in an interview with DIARIO. Van der Biezen noted that the increase in living expenses has led to a surge in families seeking assistance, resulting in significantly longer wait times for those requesting help from the foundation.
While the foundation previously aimed to respond within two to three months, the director revealed that some cases now take more than six months to process. Van der Biezen described this trend as concerning and explained that FPNC is working jointly with other organizations to find sustainable ways to help families stand on their own. Current efforts include the “Journey to Success” project, which offers small financial aid, job opportunities, and workshops to foster independence.
Beyond employment initiatives, FPNC continues to provide essential packages containing food, hygiene items, and household goods. As the new academic year approaches, the foundation is also preparing for its “Back to School” project to assist parents. Van der Biezen emphasized that the foundation supports a mix of families, including those with no income and working households whose earnings do not cover basic necessities. The goal is to alleviate the financial pressure within these homes.
