Minister Dowers meets Director General of Koninkrijksrelaties

ORANJESTAD (AAN): On March 31, 2026, Minister of Justice, Integration, Public Transport, and Energy, Mr. Arthur Dowers, met with Barbara Wolfensberger, the Director-General of the Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations (BZK). The meeting focused on fostering stronger institutional coordination and exploring strategic collaboration opportunities between Aruba and the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

The discussions were constructive and aimed at enhancing the relationship between the two entities. Minister Dowers and Director-General Wolfensberger exchanged ideas on how Aruba and the Netherlands can work together on key issues, specifically those that impact Aruba’s governance and social policies. The emphasis was on improving institutional alignment and finding ways to address challenges in a collaborative manner, ensuring that Aruba benefits from this partnership with the Kingdom.

During the meeting, Minister Dowers also had a conversation with two UNOPS policy officers, Anna Straatsma and Carlein Kuperus, about the plans to construct a new prison in Aruba. The discussion included topics on migration and the challenges and opportunities that come with managing migration flows. The new prison is part of the government’s efforts to enhance the island’s justice infrastructure, which has been a priority for the government. The goal is to build a facility that meets international standards and ensures the safety and security of both detainees and the general public.

These meetings reflect a broader, strategic approach to strengthening Aruba’s infrastructure, governance, and addressing key social issues. They underscore the commitment of the government to fostering stronger partnerships with the Netherlands and other international bodies to address Aruba’s evolving needs.

The ongoing dialogue and collaboration with the Kingdom of the Netherlands reflect the government’s commitment to building a solid foundation of trust, respect, and cooperation, which are essential for achieving sustainable and long-lasting progress for Aruba.
