ORANJESTAD (AAN): On March 31, 2026, Minister of Justice, Integration, Public Transport, and Energy, Mr. Arthur Dowers, met with Barbara Wolfensberger, the Director-General of the Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations (BZK). The meeting focused on fostering stronger institutional coordination and exploring strategic collaboration opportunities between Aruba and the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
The discussions were constructive and aimed at enhancing the relationship between the two entities. Minister Dowers and Director-General Wolfensberger exchanged ideas on how Aruba and the Netherlands can work together on key issues, specifically those that impact Aruba’s governance and social policies. During the meeting, Minister Dowers also had a conversation with two UNOPS policy officers, Anna Straatsma and Carlein Kuperus, about the plans to construct a new prison in Aruba. The discussion included topics on migration and the challenges and opportunities that come with managing migration flows. The new prison is part of the government’s efforts to enhance the island’s justice infrastructure, which has been a priority for the government. The goal is to build a facility that meets international standards and ensures the safety and security of both detainees and the general public.
