ORANJESTAD (AAN) – Landa Merryweather, representative of the original owning family of Cas Veneranda, delivered an emotional speech describing the historic property as a ‘legacy of love’ rather than just a building.
During a recent event, Merryweather shared personal memories of the house, highlighting its role as a gathering place for family celebrations and traditions. She noted that while the decision to transfer the property was difficult, she felt gratitude knowing it would be restored and preserved for future generations. “Even though the appearance of the house has changed, its essence will never be lost,” she said.
Merryweather acknowledged the efforts of Minister Geoffrey Wever in driving the restoration process. The project aligns with the Government’s vision, led by Prime Minister Mike Eman, to revitalize downtown Oranjestad through heritage preservation and cultural activation.
