ORANJESTAD (AAN) – During a parliamentary AWSS meeting, PPA parliamentarian Eduard Pieters delivered a strong message, stating that it is time for action instead of empty promises regarding the ongoing issues at Parkietenbos.
According to Pieters, the problem is not only at the community level but also within the system itself. He pointed out that, according to parliamentary rules, a request for a public meeting must be addressed within 30 days. However, in this case related to waste management and AWSS, the process took nearly nine months.
Pieters described this delay not as a simple administrative issue, but as a sign of institutional negligence. He questioned how a country can claim proper governance if its own rules are not respected, warning that public trust weakens each time the system fails.
He emphasized that communities such as Cas Paloma, Ser’i Teishi, Parkietenbos, and Simeon Antonio are suffering the consequences of inaction. After personally visiting these areas, Pieters noted growing frustration among residents who are not asking for luxury, but for basic government response.
“This is not about political parties; this is about people who are suffering,” Pieters stated. He stressed that responsibility lies with the government and that failure to act cannot be justified.
The PPA faction is now demanding a clear and immediate action plan. Pieters highlighted that the public is no longer interested in studies, reports, or promises, but expects concrete results that improve their living conditions.
He concluded with a firm warning that if the government does not act urgently, Parliament will take necessary steps to ensure the issue is not ignored. His final message was clear: the people are no longer asking—they are demanding action.
