ORANJESTAD (AAN) – The waiting area of the Radiology Department at Horacio Oduber Hospital (HOH) now features a unique piece of visual art. A large artwork created by local artist Igmar Reyes has been donated to the hospital by the Mezas family.
The artwork, originally designed for the Mezas family home, found a new purpose after the property was sold. Inspired by Coldwell Banker’s charitable initiatives abroad, broker Dick Souge proposed donating the piece to the hospital, giving back to the Aruba community.
The artwork, titled “Eternity,” features flowing wave patterns symbolizing life’s journey with its ups and downs. The waves also hold symbolic meaning connected to radiology, where wave-based imaging plays a key role in diagnosis. The piece aims to create a calming and reflective atmosphere for patients, visitors, and staff.
A unique element of the installation is the combination of visual art and music. Mr. Mezas composed a song titled “Greater than Today,” which can be accessed via a QR code displayed alongside the artwork, allowing visitors to both see and hear the artistic expression.
Jacco Vroegop, Chairman of the HOH Board, highlighted the importance of art in healthcare environments, noting that it helps people feel more at ease. He also expressed gratitude to the Mezas family for their meaningful contribution, marking the hospital’s first art donation.
This initiative is expected to inspire others to contribute and continue enriching the hospital environment through art.
