ORANJESTAD (AAN) – Luenne Gomez‑Pieters, Director of the Departamento di Impuesto (DIMP), shared a summary of tax figures for Aruba in 2025 in an interview with DIARIO. She explained that some taxes experienced declines overall during the year.
One notable decline was in loonbelasting (wage tax). However, this drop was expected due to a change in the tax system: as of January 1, 2025, the income tax and wage tax rate for the lowest bracket was reduced from 10% to 0%, meaning fewer taxes were withheld for many workers.
Despite the lower wage tax revenue, Ms. Gomez‑Pieters emphasized that the department still met its budget target. Since the department anticipated a smaller intake, it adjusted its forecasts accordingly.
Another tax that declined was the overdrachtbelasting (transfer tax), which is linked to property transactions. After a period of high activity—especially among buyers living abroad—transaction levels have recently stabilized, leading to less tax revenue than in the previous year.
Overall, the decline in certain tax categories reflects the impact of recent tax rate changes and shifts in economic activity, but the tax department remains on track with its financial objectives.
